Despite being a creature of habits, 2019 was the year of new beauty discoveries for me. I found a real interest in trying out new skincare products (learning that my skin is v picky but more on that in another post), and my makeup habits changed a whole lot, realising minimal makeup doesn’t mean boring. I’m always chopping and changing my go-to makeup products, however, I thought I’d share 5 which I’m loving at the moment!
Glossier Stretch Concealer in G11 – I only picked this up late last year, thanks to their wonderful Black Friday sale, HOWEVER, I blumming love this stuff. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I’d read that it doesn’t provide much coverage, which, as someone with the dark circles of someone who hasn’t slept in the last 20 years, wasn’t something I was after. And admittedly, although it doesn’t provide much coverage, but it’s just so good?! It’s very hydrating and glossy which just really really works under my eyes. I do find I have to set it in place if I’m out for the day, but it makes me look a little more alive and that is an a* in my book.
Smashbox Superfan Mascara – I’m not sure how I ended up using this mascara, as truthfully I tend to make my beauty purchases on recommendation, and I’ve not heard anyone talk about this, but it is a miracle worker. If, like me, you struggle with your mascara resting on your chin by the end of the day, then you need to give this a whirl. I’m pretty fickle with mascara, but I’m about to pick up my third tub of the stuff, as I just don’t see myself using anything else. I can apply it at stupidly early o’clock in the morning and know it’ll have not budged by the end of the day. Amazing.
IT Cosmetics CC Cream in Fair – I’m fortunate that my skin isn’t all that bad on a whole, but I do suffer with scarring and often quite red cheeks, so I’ve always found myself drawn to foundations with a heavier coverage. So, when I heard all of the rave reviews on this product, I knew I was taking a bit of a gamble on whether I’d love it or whether it would lie in my drawers for the rest of eternity. Thankfully, it paid off and I absolutely love wearing this as my main base makeup. It’s totally changed the way I see makeup, as I’ve found myself favouring products that perfect my skin rather than just cover it up.
PIXI Multi-Balm in Baby Petal – As I type this, I’ve noticed that these are now half-price over on the PIXI website so I’m slightly terrified that these are being discontinued, BUT, this was an absolute favourite in 2019 (and still is) so I can’t not mention one of the products I use every single day, now can I? Preferring to have more of a dewy makeup base, cream blush has become a total go-to for me, and this one by PIXI applies like a dream. It’s a beautiful coral/peach shade which isn’t too orange nor isn’t too pink-toned, and gives my cheeks a healthy flush that lasts me throughout the day.
& Other Stories Lipstick in Bois Rose – In the summer of 2019 I started my braces (/clear aligner) journey, so I’ve found myself not reaching for many of my lipsticks lately as lipsticks and aligners aren’t the best combo. However, I picked up this nude lipstick on a whim a few months back, and it’s now my daily go-to lip product. It isn’t too pigmented (so no lipstick on teeth incidents so far, phew) but it adds a nice sheen and lasts well throughout the day with minimal top-ups needed.
