My Spring Wardrobe Essentials

Over the past weekend, I’ve been having a wardrobe sort out and really starting to think about my outfits for this Spring/Summer. As someone who favours A/W dressing, I tend to go for darker colours and heavier fabrics, so with a strict budget on clothes to upgrade my wardrobe (freelance lyf), I’ve had to really think about staple pieces that are not only versatile, but things I’m not going to be bored with by next week. It’s only in the past year or so that I’ve started to feel like I finally know my personal style and what suits me the most – these are my wardrobe essentials for Spring.

An A-Line Skirt

As someone who loves 60s/70s inspired style, A-Line skirts are a big part of my wardrobe. I love how flattering they are with my body shape (stupidly small waist and equally as stupid wide hips/thighs) and how they go with just about everything. They can be dressed up and dressed down and are a staple piece for me all year round. When it comes to Spring/Summer I like to play around with different colours and prints (whereas in Winter I’m more about textures). This year I’m particularly loving palm prints and blush pinks.

A Mini Bag

Admittedly, I’ve never been a huge bag person. If you know me in real life, you’ll know that I carry around everything with me each day (like it’s a little ridiculous) so I have a bad history of breaking every bag I’ve owned. So this season I’m challenging myself to purchase a smaller bag and size down when it comes to carrying around the essentials – I’ve never really spent more than £40 on a bag in my life, but I’ve currently got my eye on a few second-hand designer ones that I’m saving up for! Whilst it would be probably practical of me to get a plainer, more neutral colour, I’ve found myself favouring the pastel shades and patterns this season. Who needs to be sensible after all?

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; cb = new Date().getTime().toString(); p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js?cb=1461579915476?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

A Ruffle Blouse/Jumper

If there’s one trend this season that I’m fully on board with, it’s all about the ruffles – especially when it comes to blouses and knitwear. A lot of my wardrobe can be sometimes a little masculine, so I love how ruffles add some femininity into my outfits. I think they’re a great way of adding a twist onto what are normally seen as staple pieces. I recently picked up a few white shirts with ruffle detailing and I’ve been wearing them on an almost daily basis!

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; cb = new Date().getTime().toString(); p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js?cb=1461579915476?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

A Denim Jacket

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a denim jacket kind of gal. The minute the weather seems to warm up, I often find myself wearing one everyday throughout Spring and Summer. There’s something so timeless about them, with them coming in so many different variations to cover all bases. From pink wash denim (how amazing is this Tesco one in my wishlist below?!) and DIY details to biker cuts and raw hems, I’m all sorts of obsessed. I’m really enjoying the new shapes of denim jacket that seem to be out this season, but next on my list is one with embroidery detailing – I’ve seen a few over on Instagram that just need to be mine!

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; cb = new Date().getTime().toString(); p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js?cb=1461579915476?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

A Pair of Pointed Flats

When it comes to shoes, I’m definitely all about comfort. Chances are, if I end up with an uncomfy pair of shoes, I’ll wear them the once and never wear them again – so I try and stick with styles and fabrics which I know not only suit me but also don’t rip my feet apart (is there anything worse than sore feet? I think not!). As someone who was blessed with short legs (thanks parents) I love a good pointed flat (/with a tiny block heel) as I really feel like they elongate my legs and make me look that tiny bit taller – every little helps, right? Plus they add a real lady-like feel to an outfit and I always find it fun styling them with more masculine pieces.

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; cb = new Date().getTime().toString(); p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js?cb=1461579915476?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

    I neeeeeed a pair of pointed flats that have just a tiny bit of a chunky heel. If my shoes are completely flat I feel like a kid since I'm so short!

    These are great essentials! I've officially been converted to pointed toe shoes and mini bags this year, so I've got to agree with you!
