Make-Up Bag – c/o Alphabet Bags via Not On The High-Street
Something a little bit different from me today, a beauty post (although you’ve probably noticed that – duh). I tend to store most of my make-up in drawers as I’m a bit lazy when it comes to leaving my bed, so my daily make-up is kept in a cosmetics bag on my bedside table. And after recently receiving this lovely one from Not On The High Street (thanks guys!) I felt inspired to talk about what make-up I’m often reaching for. I’m by no means any sort of expert in make-up, in fact I haven’t much clue, but I try. And that’s what counts right?
You’re maybe thinking ‘why is there two foundations photographed, surely one is enough?’ but alas! Seeing as the NARS Sheer Glow in Mont Blanc has a hefty price tag, I like to wear the Rimmel Match Perfection foundation in 010 Light Porcelain on my lazy days as it’s much more affordable (and therefore nicer on the bank balance). Both suit my incredibly pale skin, so I’d highly recommend them for any of you fellow milkbottles out there! And amazingly, I’m not even the lightest shade at NARS, crazy or what?! Whilst the NARS Sheer Glow gives more of a natural finish, I tend to find the Rimmel Match Perfection leaves your skin looking nice and dewy, which is something I normally go for. Both are a medium coverage I’d say, but easily build-able on those days where my skin is far from perfect.
Since I inherited dark circles to rival eyes which have just been punched (cheers parents!) I’m always on the hunt for different under-eye concealers to try. I recently picked up the Bobbi Brown Under-Eye Corrector in Porcelain Bisque when on a make-up shopping trip with Megan, she’s a bad influence that girl, and it’s designed to cancel out the blue/purple tones under the eyes. I apply that after my foundation, then use the one and only Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Fair over the top to combat it. Plus, it’s great to cover up the spot scarring I often suffer from.
(And yes, I realised after taking the photographs I’d forgot to include a blusher, rookie error. However, at the minute I’ve been loving Topshop’s Cream Blusher in Prime Time, which is a rather bright pink blush that gives a nice flush to the cheeks. I’d look a bit like a ghost without it, and as much as I love Casper, no-one wants that!)
I’m definitely one for eye make-up and during the day I normally go for either a natural looking smokey-eye or a classic cat-eyed flick. Something that is recent to my collection is this MAC eye shadow four palette, which has a bit of a story behind it. At Christmas, I wrote a little list of products I’d had my eyes on, and after asking for ‘Naked Lunch’ and ‘Satin Taupe’, my parents were wrongly sold ‘Brule’ and ‘Foile’, two colours that looked nothing like the ones I’d been after. After emailing MAC cosmetics, they were lovely enough to send me out the two colours I’d originally wanted, and so I ended up with this palette. Much to my surprise, all four colours get used equally. ‘Brule’ is a matte ‘creamy-beige’ which I find perfect to blend out smokey make-up, ‘Foile’ is a matte reddish-brown that I tend use in my creases to add more depth, ‘Naked Lunch’ is a shimmery pink colour that’s my go-to base colour whilst ‘Satin Taupe’ is what it says it is, a classic taupe with a slight shimmer.
Eyeliners tend to smudge like mad on me, which is unfortunate and never a good look. However I use Soap and Glory’s Supercat Liner when feeling a little brave and ready to resemble the inevitable panda. Mascara is the one item I can’t leave the house without wearing, with my two current favourites being the Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara and the Clinque Bottom-Lash Mascara, which help lengthen my lashes, both winning the award for best mascara in my eyes (oh ha ha, pun totally intended).
And finally, lip products! My favourite! Yes, I’m a little bit of a hoarder when it comes to lipstick. If there’s a new lipstick to try, I am there. I wear different lip products every day, because it’s super fun to play around with colours, however, there are three which have had a bit extra wear this summer especially. First up is the Maybelline Baby Lips in ‘Cherry Me‘ which I bought along with 90% of other bloggers when they appeared in Boots, much to my excitement, a few weeks ago. I tend to wear this under my lipstick to prevent the dreaded flaky skin.
Rocking a red lip is also something I’ve been going for recently, and since I don’t own any MAC red lipsticks *shock horror*, this Catrice Lipstick in ‘It’s a Matt World’ has been a frequent visitor to the bottom of my handbag. I picked it up when in Menorca earlier this year, and if you can get your hands on it I’d highly recommend it. Although it has a matte finish, it’s anything but drying, plus it is incredibly pigmented with amazing staying power. All of which get a gold star in my opinion. And on days where I’ve decided on a more natural-looking lip, MAC Lipstick in Crosswires is a firm favourite. It’s not the nudest of colours, as nudes/light pinks don’t suit me at all, but I absolutely love it’s toned-down coral shade. And with it being a cremesheen finish, aka what I prefer, it’s perfect to just whip on during the day when you don’t want to look too bare.
